  About the Boxes

__The process begins with a flicker of an idea.  What if ...?  Maybe if I did this... to that...  And out of the inevitable pile of sawdust rises an artistic expression as old as Man or Woman: A Vessel.  A Box to keep things. An old shape but with new uses.

There is cutting and assembly, in a myriad of patterns and phases, until it is new born.  After hours of sanding, usually to a fine 320 grit, I grow attached to these boxes; these children of my artistic expression.  But there comes a time when my children must go out into the world and hold something.

None of them are "production" boxes.

The finishes start with natural, neutral oils to bring out the grain and deepen the color.  Then, as if to dress them for some formal event, I hand rub it all with an English paste wax- for a subtle glow.  No polyurethanes or high gloss here.  Not for my babies.

Inside I have fun.  I use a myriad of rich fabrics or fine suedes to line them and make them nice to touch.  Making these boxes is a pleasure-filled act.  One that I enjoy immensely.

I imagine all manner of treasures and jewels shall be contained inside.   It's up to the buyer to know what use they shall come to know.
