The artist and the bear.     I came upon wood art late in life.  I began to need an artistic outlet.  Wood working seemed to be the ideal match.

Creating in wood is a metaphor for life in general.  It is difficult, but yields wonderful results.  It creates beauty from the ordinary.  It is natural and understandable.  It has a set of rules which must be abided.

Like most artists, I am constantly looking for the next inspiration, which I find in nature.  Where else can one look for just the right branch, which can yield such sensual beauty?  The making of a wood vessel makes me see clearly, and act appropriately depending upon the nature of the wood.  It forces me to use my skills to the next level.  It is a wonderful meditation, and I lose myself within the grains and swirls of each box.

Like some crazed alchemist, I am always looking for something to add (or subtract) to my boxes.  What components work within this structure?  What elements of style can be both whimsical and elaborate?  I find wood working to be an infinite variety of possibilities, especially when I am standing in my shop looking at a row of unfinished boards.

I respect the environment, so I only use wood that is sustainable.  I try to let the wood speak, and not let my cleverness overtake it's natural beauty.  I try to be perfect, but often fall short of my intended target.  As with any intention, I try to be pure.

I live and work in Brooksville, Florida with my very supportive wife, Diane.  There are also two horses on site, Rio and Karma.  And two dogs, named Remy and Layla (below).  Playful doggies.
